Sometimes, time just flies. I remember when I created this blog, and all of these high hopes for sharing all sorts of interesting stories. I have often felt guilty for not writing, but the more time that passes, the more awkward if feels to write something. But, who cares, I feel like writing, so I’m just going to write.
So, after 2 ½ years of camping, with an 11-month-old and another on the way, we have decided to hang up the Airstream life for the moment (hopefully just until we get our kids out of the house someday.) We are still in the market for a unique vessel to do life in, but we went ahead and signed a short-term lease to buy some time while looking for the next adventure. Both Katy and I are grateful for our time in the Airstream, and I truly believe it set the foundation for the rest of our marriage. Once you have the power to choose to live without something, you no longer need it.
Camping was not only the best financial decision for the stage of life we were in, it was a load of fun. There were a few normal maintenance issues, both personal and antique RV related. Looking back, I hit an all-time low (thanks to alcohol and anxiety), and an all-time high (thanks to Baby Jed and Jesus.) I saw my wife blossom into a beautiful mother, and the news that she was pregnant changed me forever. I got to bring my baby home and place him on our special couch right there in Mildred, step back, and thank God for the opportunity to live out a dream of full-time Airstream living. Although we saw some ugly days, mainly due to a long-hidden struggle with alcohol, both Katy and I will always look back on our time with Mildred as some of the best days of our lives.
Now that we have the second kiddo on the way, it is clear that we need a more kid-friendly rig. If anyone has a good idea, we would love to hear it. More importantly, if anyone is thinking about downsizing, we would love to share our story, and provide any help we can to get you on your way to saving money on living expenses, and hopefully having a lot of fun!
I am going to try and post a bit more frequently, and keep it short and sweet.
