Pokemon in the Old-Folks Home

One year ago today, I brought my little boy home. I will never forget the joy I felt when Katy and I stepped back to look at our little baby sleeping in his car seat on our Airstream couch. It blows my mind that he’s one, and it’s even more difficult to believe that my wife has a human the size of a chipmunk growing inside her as I write this.

My grandpa has mentioned a few times over the last five or so years how fast it goes; how quickly you look up and realize that time has vanished. I am only 28, but this week I can almost see the time running away from me. I see people falling in love, I see my family growing in size, and I see everyone growing older so fast. I can picture myself as an old man. What will I have to say? I sure hope I’ll be proud of the effort I put into this life. I hope even more to be proud of the effort I put into my family.

I think it’s important to stop and be thankful for your blessings, but never lose perspective as to how quickly it’s over. I think tomorrow would be a wonderful day, if everyone spent five minutes trying to picture themselves as an elderly man or woman. Maybe we would put down our phones, call someone we love, or make a decision we’ve been putting off. Better yet, maybe if they would hide a some of those Pokemen in old-folks homes around town, we’d all be forced to talk to someone who could give us perspective as to how fast it really goes.
